Pretty Chinoiserie Wallpapers and Prints

A while back we fell in love with a vendor called Jardins En Fleurs.  We probably blogged about it once.  They make beautiful, beautiful Chinoiserie paintings and accessories.  The problem was, it was so expensive it was impossible to sell.  The company closed down shortly after--a victim of the 2008-09 economy, evidently.

Anyway, we get this email the other day from Belle Chasse home and it has a very similiar look and feel.  Alas, we found out it was found by the same founder of Jardins en Fleur.  He has great taste, we must say.

The line is more affordable now.  If you are looking for pretty Chinoiserie prints, it's a nice choice.

Here are some samples:

Fabulous Beatles Chairs from Andrew Martin

Have you seen the work of Andrew Martin?  An UK -based designer, he has that really cool, quirky, crazy English taste that we love.

Here are some new fabrics that just came out for Lee Jofa.   Wouldn't they be fabulous as pillows too?

Love them!

PS We apologize, we don't have the pricing for these yet as they are so new.   We'll be posting them on our Lee Jofa Fabric section as soon as they are available.  In the mean time, if you need it right away, drop us a line.  To see more of Andrew Martin's products, click here.

Pretty Linens from Lili Alessandra

We saw the bedding/decorative pillows/drapery line from Lili Alessandra in Dallas last week and we just fell in love.  It's  really pretty, but in a clean-lined, modern kinda of way.

If you like neutral colors, soft and pretty bedding you'll dig this line.  The best thing about it is you can get coordinating pieces for everything.  For example, you can order the headboard to coordinate with the bedding, drapery and so on...

Here are some samples:

We'll be posting this online in our decorative pillows and bedding section soon. In the mean time, if you would like pricing info please drop us a line...

Modern Bookcases

We've been struggling with the decision whether to buy an iPad or not.  We are late adopter, or maybe even no adopter, type when it comes to technology.  There is something about holding a book and flipping the pages that is really satisfying to us.

That is, until you want to carry ten books with you when you travel.  And most of them are hardbacks. Times like that make us wonder if printed books are going the way of CDs, you know. Like, who buys CD anymore?

But as we were driving down the Melrose Design district the other day, this gorgeous bookcase from the Poliform showroom almost caused us to crash the car.  It is STUNNING!  It's huge and it's perfect if you have a loft with very tall ceiling.

We don't have the pricing information for this item, sorry.  Poliform is very high-end and upscale, so it is probably really expensive.  But, if you have a really good carpenter, it's probably really easy to build!  And, wouldn't it be great as a room divider too? Just make sure your carpenter anchor it properly.

You see, there is always a place for books! Ipad or no Ipad.

Masculine Furnishings for Men

Men usually don't have that much say in the decorating of your home, do they?  We think because if we leave it up to them all they will buy is big screen TVs and Lazy Boy chairs.   Say what you will about stereotype.  It exists because it's usually true.

So consider this a "Straight Women for Straight Guys" intervention. Furnishings can be very masculine and stylish at the same time.  Here are some of our favorite furniture lines that have that combination:

Thomas O'Brien for Hickory Chair:
This line is what we would describe as modern American classic. Very clean-lined. Solid, neutral colors. A little bit pricey, but it's the kind of furniture that won't go out of style for a long time.

Michael Weiss for Vanguard Furniture

This is another one of our favorite collection. Manly, but not overly so. There are some soft touches in the details that we like.  Less expensive than Thomas O'Brien, and the quality is just as nice.

Brownstone Furniture:

If you are looking for an affordable line with coordinating and matching items, Brownstone is a good choice. Very inexpensive. They just added a new upholstery collection, which is really nice.  We like the upholstery collection a lot more than the casegoods (industry term for wood pieces).

Bolier Furniture

If your man likes really, really simple, clean-lined things he'll like this line.  Pricey (more on the wood pieces than upholstery-the upholstery products are a bit more reasonable).  It could be a little severe (because it's all straight lines and geometric and muted colors).

As always, warm up these rooms with accessories--such as rugs, artwork, fresh flowers, books etc. We can't emphasize enough what a huge difference this would make.

Ultra Cool Barstool

We love this new modern barstool from Nuevo. It's so sleek!
The seat is upholstered in Italian leather and the base is a solid steel. Very substantial and heavy. The seat runs a bit small in size. Shown here in black, it is also available in white and brown leather. The base is hydraulic, which means you can adjust the seat heigh.

The price is $475.

Gorgeous Beach Shell Chandelier from Currey

We're crazy about this new beach shell chandelier from Currey & Co. Isn't it marvelous? Can you see this with a white linen couch and white-washed floor? You'll need a very high ceiling though. This chandelier is huge!
The size is 37rd x 64h and the price is $5750 including shipping, a little expensive, perhaps, but oh it's so worth it.

This will be posted on our Currey Chandeliers section soon so please check back for more info.

Beautiful Antique Reproductions from Eloquence Inc.

We don't see new vendors very often in the last few years. We imagine starting any new business, and especially home furnishing business, is tough. This is why we were so happy to see a new one that we really like at the High Point show -- Eloquence Inc.

Based out of Santa Monica, CA, this company makes antique reproductions that are really, really pretty. It's the kind of furniture that you want to have if you were living in, say, an Ialian villa or something. Although in Los Angeles, where we have many Spanish Mediteranean homes that were built in the 1920s, these would look amazing as well.

Here are some samples:

Art Murals for Large Spaces

We think the large murals that you see in Starbuck or Barnes and Nobles are really cool.  We always wish we can get something like that at home.  It will work great if you have a large loft with tall, tall ceilings, don't you think?  So much cooler than wallpapers.

We found a source today for it that we thought you might want to check out.  They do mostly commercial installations but you can buy them for residential as well.

Here are some samplings:

Loft Room Divider

We're in the process of downsizing from a 4000 sq ft home to a 1200-sq ft loft.  Do you know,  loft living sounds more romantic than it actually is? We find that we really miss the traditional division of space. We miss having rooms.  We miss the privacy!

We've been looking into options of dividing the space.  Drapery is one, but do you have any idea how expensive a piece of fabric with four stitching is?  It's quite a mystery actually, how much drapery can cost.  The other option is to go with a company like the Sliding Door, but they are really pricey too.

We found this company, Loft Wall, today and we thought it might be a good option.  They make portable dividers that you can customize the sizing and the panels.  They are not cheap but they are not too expensive either.  You can visit the web site to download the price list.  Keep in mind that the published prices are retail, and no one pays retail!

Here are some samples:

Modern Planters

When we go to a really cool restaurant in Miami or Los Angeles we are always envious of the huge, modern planters that they have.  It's really hard to find them.  Most of the pottery places that we have in our local area sell the traditional planters.  If you have a modern home you are kinda out luck.

Anyway, we just found a great source today for huge, commercial modern planters that we thought we'd share with you.  They are so cool!  We have no idea how much they cost, sorry. But if you are interested drop us a line and we'll get pricing info for you.

Here are some samples:

These are made by Green Form. To see more see their web site.

The accessories has her signatured subdued colors & clean-lined styles.  Here are some examples:

New Silk Flower Arrangements for Spring

Happy Friday everybody!  It's finally looking like spring in LA this week.  OMG it's been the coldest, longest winter ever!

We just got some new silk flower arrangements for spring.  Truthfully, we prefer fresh flowers over silk any day, but these look really close to being real, they'll make a pretty good substitute...

We'll be posting these up in our silk flowers section by this weekend so please check back with us then. In the mean time, have a fabulous weekend!
